Must I be an experienced singer to join an Encore program?

Definitely not! Encore Chorales and Encore ROCKS Choruses are comprised of people who have sung with organized groups for many years, as well as people who have never sung with a group before. Some didn't even know they could sing! Some can read music; some cannot. The objective is simply to have fun, but in a unique and challenging way.

What kinds of music do you sing?

For our chorales, our fall season is typically focused on a holiday music program since our concerts are performed in December. We select songs that touch on Christmas and Hanukah, but lean toward more seasonal secular music versus sacred music. In the Spring, the sky’s the limit! We sing Broadway, oratorio, American Song Book, spirituals, even a little opera. It’s a great mix and we always include a surprise or two to keep our singers – and our audiences – excited and surprised by the repertoire. All music is performed in four (SATB) or three (SAB) parts.

In October 2015, Encore was proud to introduce Encore Rocks! a Rock & Roll chorus singing the greatest hits of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.

May I attend rehearsals at Chorales/ROCKS other than my own?

Yes! We want you to experience every one of our talented conductors and to build relationships with singers throughout our Encore Creativity community. So, if you’re registered to sing with a chorale, you can visit and rehearse with any other chorale – just show up, check in with the Chorale Master, and sing! Similarly, if you’re registered as a ROCKer, you can visit and rehearse with any other ROCKS ensemble. All you’ll need to do is provide proof of your COVID-19 vaccination and first booster to sing with a new ensemble – think of your COVID documents as your passport to our expansive Encore programming.

I must miss a rehearsal on my usual day. May I make up a missed rehearsal at another nearby Encore Chorale or ROCKS Chorus?

Yes. If you must miss a rehearsal, you can make up that rehearsal at any other nearby ensemble - just provide proof of your COVID-19 vaccination and first booster to sing with a new ensemble and check in. You may also access online rehearsals at any point, or watch their recorded versions. The link to the recorded rehearsals can be found in the sidebar of the Singers' login page on the Encore Creativity website.

What forms of payment do you accept for tuition?

For those Encore programs for which you pay Encore directly, you may pay with cash or check at your first rehearsal.  We also accept credit cards via PayPal on our web site.  Online registration for those programs is located HERE.  Some of our programs are under the auspices of a sponsoring organization, e.g., AACC, Washington Conservatory at Glen Echo, Langston Brown. Links to those locations' registration pages are generally provided in our rehearsal schedule information on our home page during the registration period.

What’s your refund policy if I have to leave the chorale for some reason mid-season?

Our general refund policy is as follows:

A registration cancellation BEFORE first rehearsal attended: 100% refund

A registration cancellation AFTER first rehearsal but BEFORE 2nd rehearsal: 50% refund

A registration cancellation AFTER 2nd rehearsal: No refund

ENCORE REFUND POLICY DURING COVID

If circumstances warrant a shut-down of in-person rehearsals, Encore has added online rehearsals to cover any sessions missed. Participants can continue the sessions online, until in-person rehearsals are restored. Since an alternative form of study is available, no refunds will be issued.

ENCORE CREDIT POLICY

Should special circumstances warrant that a singer must withdraw from programs, a credit will be issued for the balance of unused sessions. The credit will be available to use toward future program participation.

I can’t make it to the first two rehearsals in the upcoming season – may I still join?

Yes! Contact our office to let us know of your situation and we will make a note to hold music for you. We recommend that anyone who cannot make the first 4 weeks of rehearsals consider waiting until the next season to join. Coming in after week 4 as a new singer will be challenging. Not impossible, but challenging. Also, Encore allows singers to make up rehearsals at other locations.

Feel free to call our office to discuss your situation.

Does Encore ever deny or restrict participation of a singer who is over 55?

The health and safety of our singers is of paramount importance to Encore. If in the judgement of Encore’s management, a current or prospective participant in an Encore program exhibits behavioral issues (including improper conduct) that pose a direct or significant risk to singers’ health and safety, Encore reserves the right to deny that individual’s enrollment in an Encore program.
