Chautauqua 2022

Encore in Chautauqua: August 28-September 2, 2022

Guests who return to Chautauqua each year describe it as a place for renewal.  Chau 2019

The Chautauqua Institution was founded on the belief that everyone “has a right to be all that he can be -- to know all that he can know.” Encore agrees and that's why we have been returning to Chautauqua since our very first camp there in 2008. (Except for during Covid.) The end of August in Chautauqua is a tradition as old as Encore itself. It's easy to understand why if you've spent an evening on the porch of the Athenaeum Hotel, sharing wine and conversation with fellow Encore singers. Here's how a Chautauqua newcomer described her first Encore camp experience: "I felt like I was in a majestic palace surrounded by gorgeous flowers and homes and the lovely lake. It was my first time there and I was in awe about the whole experience. Spot on!

This Encore program will be conducted this year by Artistic Director Brian Isaac. Choral music will be a mix of traditional choral music, as well as rocks selections.

Each day will begin with morning movement class, followed by a full choral rehearsal with Conductor, Brian Isaac, and an opportunity to enjoy the surroundings, including lovely walks of the Institution’s grounds in the afternoons or sitting on the gorgeous porch overlooking Chautauqua Lake. There will be vocal technique classes and sectionals, as well as full rehearsals twice a day. Each evening we will enjoy a relaxing dinner in the beautiful Athenaeum Hotel dining room, followed by evening recitals and programs from artists of local and national reputation, to give participants a flavor of the “in-season” Chautauqua experience. The program will conclude Friday afternoon with a final choral concert. All singers and conductors must show proof of full vaccination, including boosters.

Some of the repertoire you'll sing includes:       chautauqua institution

Hold Fast to Dreams, André J. Thomas
