James L. Brooks serves as AARP’s Director of Community Engagement, and helps lead the charge for AARP to connect locally with the organization’s nearly 38 million members and the public nationwide. He and his team focus on deepening and maturing AARP’s presence in 134 target communities—he will lead AARP’s integrated local strategy that includes virtual, in-person, and low tech offerings in 2022. Prior to AARP, Brooks served as E.D. of Project Compassion, a non-profit that creates community and provides support for people living with serious illness, caregiving, end of life, and grief. Brooks holds an undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and a Master of Divinity degree. He is originally from North Carolina and resides in Fort Myers, FL.
