QM2 URGENT INFOEncore Creativity for Older Adults, partnering with Classical Movements and Cunard Line, announces our fabulous Spring 2019 concert tour to London, England. Participants will have the option to travel to England aboard the Queen Mary 2, with a final day concert in the Queen’s Ballroom, or travel via air directly to London.

Queen Mary 2 departure from New York will be on May 24, 2019.  Or fly to London on May 30th.  The tour will end on June 6th.

Planning includes at least two concerts in famous cathedrals and excursions to Oxford and Kent.  Concerts will include a joint performance with the Kent Police Male Voice Choir. NOTE: Unlike other Encore trips, singers must have been active members of an Encore program in the spring of 2019.

England travel details:

  • England with round trip air:  $4,195
  • England with one-way air (QM2 travelers): $3,795
  • England with no air (those who prefer to make their own arrangements): $3,295
  • Single Room supplemental cost: $865

All air travelers will be on the same flight from/to Washington Dulles Airport, Departing May 30th and returning June 6th . PLEASE NOTE: Cunard may offer air options upon booking the QM2.  You are discouraged from doing so. If you book your return air via Cunard, you will be on your own for ground transportation to the airport.  All return travelers who book via Encore/Classical Movements will be on the same flight and will depart as a group from the hotel.

You may register/pay for the England segment of the trip beginning Monday, October 1st (link to be proivded here)  50% payment (less deposit already paid) will be due by October 31st. Balance will be due January 31st.  Payments made will be refundable per a schedule Encore will announce soon, but fully refundable at least through January 2019. Trip insurance will be available for this segment via Classical Movements and all travelers are strongly advised to obtain insurance. DOWNLOAD TRIP INSURANCE BROCHURE HERE. We currently have 85 travelers signed up with approximately 75% crossing on the QM2.  This is going to be a spectacular travel and concert experience!

DAY -7 to 1 (OPTIONAL): NEW YORK CITY - SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND ABOARD THE QUEEN MARY 2

Singers will rehearse for 90 minutes each morning, then on the last day perform a concert in the luxurious Queen's Ballroom at High Tea.

DAY 1: WASHINGTON – LONDON

§  Depart on an overnight flight, arriving in London in the morning.

DAY 2: SOUTHAMPTON   –LONDON (Welcome Dinner)

Windsor Castle§  Upon arrival at Southampton Docks or London Heathrow Airport, meet your Tour Manager and Local Guide(s).
§  Travel to Windsor Castle, the sprawling royal residence and seat of the ruling family. The 800-year-old medieval castle, with sumptuous state apartments and a grand reception hall, displays a fascinating array of architectural styles.
§  Lunch on your own.
§  Check into the London hotel.
§  Group welcome dinner.
§  Overnight in London.

 

DAY 3: LONDON (B, L, D*)

St Pauls Cathedral London§  Breakfast at the hotel.
§  You will enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of London, including iconic sights such as Westminster Abbey or the Tower of London.
§  Thames lunch cruise.
§  Acoustic rehearsal and sound check.
§  CONCERT I: Possible venues include: Evensong at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral, Holy Trinity Church, and others. Possible exchange with a local choir.
§  Group dinner.
§  Overnight in London.

 DAY 4: OXFORD (B, L)

Oxford§  Breakfast at the hotel.
§  Half-or full-day excursion to Oxford, “the city of dreaming spires.” Home to England’s oldest university, the town offers stunning architecture, a host of cultural attractions, and no shortage of pubs. (Bath, Brighton, the CotswoldsAONB, Oxford, Cambridge, Winchester, and other options are possible.)
§  Group lunch.
§  Attend an Evensong performance at St. Mary’s, Christ Church, or Kings if in session.
§  Free evening. Dinner on your own.
§  Overnight in London.

 

 DAY 5: LONDON –KENT  (B, L)

Leeds Castle 7§  Breakfast at the hotel. Checkout of the London hotel.
§  Visit Leeds Castle. Set on two small islands in the middle of a lake and surrounded by 500 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, Leeds Castle dates from the Norman era and is one of the best-preserved castles in Britain.
§  Group lunch.
§  Check into hotel.
§  Free evening. Dinner on your own.
§  Overnight in or near Maidstone.

 

 DAY 6: KENT (B, D)

Kent Police 15§  Breakfast at the hotel.
§  Enjoy a morning tour of Canterbury Cathedral, the magnificent 11th-century cathedral where Thomas Becket was murdered in 1170. His tomb and the cathedral have for centuries attracted pilgrims and travelers, including characters immortalized in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. Much of the stained glass in the cathedral remains intact from the 13th century.
§  Lunch on your own.
§  Exchange, acoustic rehearsal and sound check.
§  CONCERT/EXCHANGE II: Possible exchange and concert with the Kent Police Male Voice Choir. Possible venues include Canterbury or Rochester Cathedrals.
§  Group dinner.
§  Overnight in or near Maidstone.

 

DAY 7: KENT –LONDON (B, L, D)

Sissinghurst§  Breakfast at the hotel. Check out of the Maidstone Hotel.
§  Enjoy a scenic steam train ride on the Bluebell Railway through High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), a medieval landscape of wooded, rolling hills studded with sandstone outcrops, scattered farmsteads and fields, and ancient routeways. Railway stops include High Weald towns such as HorstedKeynes, Sheffield Park, and Kingscote.
§  Group lunch.
§  Visit the Bluebell Vineyard and Estates or Sissinghurst Estate and Gardens.
§  Farewell dinner.
§  Check into the London hotel.
§  Overnight in London.

 

DAY 8: LONDON –USA (B)

§  Breakfast at the hotel.
§  Check out of the hotel.
