Deborah IntVeldt, Conductor

Debphoto Deborah has a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Maryland in addition to many years of private training in vocal performance, working with such luminaries as Ruth Drucker and Molly Donnelly. She taught secondary vocal music in the Montgomery County, MD school district for 20 years and has taught voice and piano privately for the past 15 years. In 1994, Deb joined the Frederick Chorale (where she met her husband Nick) with whom she is a frequent soloist and the soprano section leader.

Deborah is the Music Director at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick and leads a 30-voice adult choir there. She has high hopes of starting a children's chorus at the church in the near future. Deb directed the Buckingham's Choice Singers from 2002-2009 and recently gave a presentation on the aging voice to the Frederick chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

When she is not making music, Deb can be found in the garden. She grows much of the food she and Nick consume as well as beautiful flowers and herbs. She also enjoys sewing, quilting and other creative crafts. In her younger days she danced on a professional clogging team for ten years, and still enjoys square- and contra-dancing. She and Nick live in Hagerstown with their small flock of laying hens.

Nick G. IntVeldt, Accompanist

Nick has enjoyed a long and varied musical career as accompanist, director, arranger, composer, and collaborator. After joining The Frederick Chorale in 1990NickPic
as a baritone, he became the ensemble's accompanist in 2003. He simultaneously served as assistant director for a number of years. Nick also served the congregation of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, Maryland, for over thirty years as accompanist and/or director of various musical ensembles, eventually becoming Assistant Director of Music Ministry. He currently serves Bethel United Methodist Church of Chewsville, Maryland, and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Frederick as pianist and choral accompanist.

Nick has also collaborated with numerous notable vocal artists, including soprano Lisa Dodson and baritone Thomas Jones, who noted: "Nick IntVeldt has accompanied me on several occasions but most memorably on a challenging and eclectic recital performed in Maryland in 2010. Nick's sense of artistry was complemented by polished skill and facility. Being an accomplished pianist doesn't always make a great accompanist but that is not the case with Nick. He sensed where I was going and what was needed instinctively and the finished product was brilliant." Dr. Gerald Mack, founder of the Great Waters Music Festival, adds: "Nick IntVeldt is one the finest pianists I have ever worked with, and he is a sensitive and complete artist on the keyboard. His versatility and knowledge of the voice make him the ideal partner for accompanying singers."

In addition to maintaining a large piano studio of about thirty students of all ages and all levels from beginner to advanced, Nick is an adjunct teacher at Barbara Ingram School for the Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland. When not practicing, accompanying, or teaching, Nick likes to hike, bicycle, spend time with his wife, Deborah, or sip a margarita with good friends.
