Encore returns to the Chautauqua Institution for our 11th Annual Summer Choral Institute August 26—August 31 , 2018.
Whether you have sung your entire life or have not sung for quite a few years—whatever your level of experience is— you will love Encore Chorale “Summer Camp.” The conductors are patient, knowledgeable and entertaining. In six days they will mold the group into a polished choral ensemble, ready to perform!
Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to work with dynamic conductors Jeanne Kelly, Founder and Artistic Director of Encore Creativity for Older Adults; Jeffrey Dokken, Associate Artistic Director; and conductor, Stephen Harouff.
Each day will begin with breakfast to energize us for a morning that will include movement class, followed by a full choral rehearsal. After lunch there will be an opportunity to enjoy the surroundings, including guided tours of the Institution’s grounds. Once back to work, there will be vocal technique classes and sectionals, as well as another full rehearsal. Singers may be seated for rehearsals and performances.
Together, Kelly, Dokken and Harouff will offer challenging music from the oratorio repertoire, in addition to spirituals, Broadway favorites, American Songbook and more.
Each evening, we will enjoy a relaxing dinner in the beautiful Athenaeum Hotel dining room, followed by evening recitals and programs from artists of local and national reputation, to give participants a flavor of the “in-season” Chautauqua experience.
The program will conclude Friday afternoon when we perform a choral concert for friends, family, and the local community in Elizabeth S. Lenna Hall. This is always a wonderful finale!
