  • Bon Voyage!!!

qm2landingheadshipI sure can pack a lot of activities into a short period of time!   Last Tuesday Larry and I had the Queen Mary 2 singers at our Chesapeake Bay home for a sing-thru of the QM2 music.   We had lots of fun meeting one another and singing through all the music we will perform on board the QM2 in the Queen’s Room for High Tea on the final day of our cruise.   The room holds about 300 passengers and they love high tea.   I am sure they will love Encore too!   After the rehearsal we enjoyed excellent appetizers brought by the singers and the wine flowed.

Then my family came for a big picnic July 2.   We had 16 family members join us for a day of fabulous weather and great all American food. And of course our little grandson Lucas was with us.   I must say that when I took Lucas for a stroller ride thru the community I felt so happy. Being a grandparent is like nothing else.   I just want the world to meet this little guy.   We took Cantabile down to Herrington South where we watched great fireworks.

Larry’s sister and husband and their daughter and boy friend joined us for a fabulous cruise on board Cantabile on Sunday.   We were cranking away at 7 knots – excellent wind.   And on Monday we took the boat down to a beach south of us, anchored the boat and took the dinghy ashore to a beautiful beach to look for beads.  Legend has it that a Japanese ship sank off that coast many years ago and part of their cargo was tiny beads.  You can still find them.   We had a ball digging.

Then July 4 evening our community was one huge party.   Everyone was out partying and then the fireworks began.   Fun fun fun!

Today has been spent winding down the office for the next two weeks while we are on the Singing at Sea Journey aboard the QM2 and then off to Ireland……..that’s just Larry and me.   We have not vacationed in Europe since we went to France ten years ago and we are really looking forward to this.  With a name like Kelly,  it’s about time we went to Ireland!   Packing is a real nightmare.  How do you get all those evening clothes and touring clothes in one suitcase?!  I am still working on that.

My assistant will be running the office and taking Chautauqua registrations.   So keep those registrations coming.   We are up to 82 and shooting for 100!

Encore has been so good to me!   When I think back at what we have accomplished, I am in awe.   And tired.  It’s time for some R&R!

Encore Chorale celebrated a grand Singing at Sea Journey on board the elegant Queen Mary 2© ocean liner, sailing out of the Manhattan harbor on July 6.   There was much celebrating going on as the ship passed by the dramatic skyline of the city, sailing past the Statue of Liberty and finally squeaking under the Verrazano Bridge.  There were 2,500 passengers on board with a crew of 1,500.  Needless to say, the passengers were well cared for by the huge and excellent crew.  Thirty very lucky singers from Encore were on board and because their rehearsals were in the open area of the Winter Garden, they attracted ten more singers from England and the US.  Days began with a 10:00 am rehearsal and by noon the singers were ready to embark on a day of many activities offered on board.  Activities included the planetarium, movies, lectures, classes with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), chamber music concerts, relaxing on the signature green QM2 deck chairs, and high tea.  Evenings were spent dining in the elegant Britannia Restaurant, followed by excellent entertainment with the Cunard Singers and Dancers and guest artists, including actors from RADA.  There were also formal balls, including the famous Black and White Ball and the Royal Ascot Ball.   Encore was well represented with some of our singers wearing festive and creative hats.
