Who would have thought babysitting a four month old for four hours would be so exhausting? It was my very first time babysitting for our new grandson and I'm learning. And I sure am glad Lucas can't talk yet or he would be telling his Mom and Dad how long it took Gramma Kelly to change a diaper and put on a clean outfit! But he never cried while I was working on the task of diaper change. Actually he seemed amused. Big smiles.
When Lucas and I decided it was time for a bottle, we went up to his nursery where it is so quiet and cozy and there is a very comfortable rocking chair. He drank and I sang....softly. And he got the biggest smiles with the milk pouring out the sides of his mouth. He loves my singing! I sang all the nursery rhymes I knew and Brahms Lullaby. I made up a song in German, just for Lucas. We had such a wonderful time. Then we both fell asleep.
But alas, the calm gave way to a cranky Lucas. His bewitching hour is 5pm. Bingo. On the dot. I tried everything but nothing worked. Walking, singing, swinging, dancing, bottle.......................... He was screaming when his Daddy walked in the door. I felt like a very bad gramma. So Mike walked him and talked to him. Nothing. So we tried putting him in his swing, but not engaging the swing. And we turned on Baby Einstein - Beethoven DVD. Well, Lucas watched that thing like I have never seen a baby do. He loves it. He follows the characters across the screen. He loves the change of color. He even moves his lips and he smiles. Watching him watch the DVD was so much fun. Of course, Lucas is a genius!
Looks like we have a convention of Canvas Back Ducks out in Tracys Creek. They all swim in a circle then they all turn around and swim the other way. They aren't very social with the gulls. Speaking of gulls. We have one ice flow left and yesterday we must have had 1000 gulls out on that ice flow. And when one flies, they all fly. Just a sea of shimmering silver. So beautiful.
Katie Adams of Langston Encore Chorale sent the picture on the left to me. I love it! So there you go Encore singers. I'm even in the skies telling you to watch me!
