In Dance Technique for Active Older Adults, Jane Franklin offers methods to integrate and refine movement while increasing flexibility, coordination and strength. The class consists of standing stretches, rhythmic patterns and dance sequences partnering with other class members. Individual experience is acknowledged, no matter age, past training or physical proficiency
Instructor Jane Franklin received a MFA from the Ohio State University as University Fellow and certification from the Laban Institute for Movement Studies. She is the Artistic Director of Jane Franklin Dance, a Washington DC metro area dance company that incorporates active participation in dance by people of all ages; performances outdoors, in galleries and non-traditional sites; and collaborations blending dance with media and visual arts. • Jane Franklin is a recipient of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region Creative Communities Initiative grant and has received multiple state and local grants for projects that cross artistic disciplines.• Most recently, Jane Franklin was selected for the 2010 Source Festival “Artistic Blind Dates,” for Forward 5, is a professional development program of Dance/MetroDC , and to present a site specific performance for the Dance/USA at the Swedish Embassy. A STAR Award recipient for “Outstanding Community Outreach,” Jane Franklin Dance’s ongoing projects include work with the Senior Adult community, Forty+ – a performing group of older adults committed to the joys of movement past the age of 40 – and after school projects for youth. Jane Franklin Dance tours for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Paul Mellon Arts in Education Program and the Virginia Commission’s Tour Directory.
